Born in central India, Prabir traveled and schooled across various cities of India. After graduating, in English Literature, from the University of Delhi, he left for Thailand where he worked, from ’73 till ’80—initially as a Space Retailing executive, for the Thompson Group of newspapers, and later as a Special Reports editor for Thailand’s leading business publication—‘Business in Thailand’.

Returning to India, in 1980, he began his career in advertising and worked for over two decades in India’s leading advertising agencies—Everest(DY&R), Ogilvy & Mather, Clarion(Bates International) and, for over a decade, with the Mudra Group (DDB), as President & Executive Director. In 1991, while in Clarion, he handled the print media, for the general election campaign, of the Congress party, and worked closely with the late Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi.

Prabir has been photographing for the past 20 years. In addition to Ladakh & Assam, he is currently photographing Calcutta, Rajasthan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. He is simultaneously developing his conceptual series—‘Voyager’.

He was awarded The Habitat Award for best Photography Exhibition for 2002. His Interglobe calendar, for 2003, was awarded a gold at the SAPPI Asian Awards for Printing.

In the summer of 2004 he held talk shows of his pictures of Ladakh, in various cities of California. And, in 2005 & 2007, he presented picture talk shows, of his unique wall mural photography of Ladakh, at the Rubin Museum of Arts, New York.

In April, 2005, he published his award winning picture book, ‘Ladakh’. This coffee-table publication took almost a decade to photograph and write. ‘Ladakh’ has been critically acclaimed by art critics and has won the prestigious Gold, at the federation of Master Printers Awards Ceremony in Mumbai, India.

In 2006 his work on Ladakh won the coveted international B/W photography Magazine Spotlight Award. The same year his book, ‘Ladakh’, won the silver at the SAAPI awards in Jakarta and was voted ‘Book of the month’, by Better Photography (UK) in July 2006. ‘Ladakh’ was launched, along with a showing of his pictures, by Prestel & Bamford, in London, in Oct 2006.

Prabir’s work is held in India & internationally, by private and corporate collectors, and has been featured in B&W magazine, Silvershotz, Artnews and in various other international magazines and newspapers.

Prabir was nominated for the international Prix Pictet 2009 Award. He was selected as one of the Super Six Photographers, for 2009, by Fuji Film, India.

During the past few years Prabir has held critically acclaimed solo exhibitions in New York, Chicago, London, Katonah, Los Angles, New Delhi, Kolkatta & Mumbai. His pictures have also been exhibited, by Fuji Films, in Cologne, Germany.

Prabir currently resides in Gurgaon (New Delhi suburb), India.
